Installing Linux Mint 18.1 Serena

Linux is the most widely used operating system among programmers because of its huge amount of tools.Their are many types of Linux versions that have specific functionalities like kali linux, ubuntu but today i am going to tell you how you can install linux mint 18.1 Serena on your personnel computer.

Step 1-Download latest version of linux mint from the given link https://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
Step 2-Make a bootable pen drive using Rufus.I personally prefer rufus because it is an easy and fast tool to create bootable cd/pen drive.
It is recommended to create a bootable pen drive instead of cd as the installation process is faster in pen drive as compared to cd.
If you don't know how to create a bootable pen drive you can learn that from the given link-
http://www.techrepublic.com/article/pro-tip-use-rufus-to-create-a-bootable-usb-drive-to-install-almost-any-os/

Step 4-Restart your pc and change its bios settings.
You can enter the bios settings by pressing the desired key which is any of the below keys
F1,F2,F10,DEL,ESC
*On lenovo yoga 3 laptop, you can enter bios by first completely shutting down the computer and than pressing the small button beside power button on right side of your laptop.

The bios setting should look like this

After entering into bios setting go to boot and than bring usb/cd on top of all the devices by using arrow and enter keys.

Step 5-Restart your pc having your usb/cd plugged in.
Step 7-After that your pc should load linux mint and should show you the below image-

Step 8-Select Start Linux Mint and the  live version of linux mint should load up.
The live version enables you to use linux components without actually installing linux. This function is not available in windows. So the user can test linux without even installing it.
On the desktop screen you should see a option install linux mint, click that-

This should open a new window like this-

Here select your language and click continue

After that it will ask weather you want to install 3rd party software or not.It is recommended that you install it.Their is no problem if you don't install it as you can manually install them later. After that click next.

This step generally tells you about the minimum requirement space for this operating system. As you can see 9.4 gb is the recommended space.

This step enables you to erase all the data on your hard disk and install Linux Mint on it.

NOTE-If you want to install linux alongside some another operating system that choose install alongside windows.

This step automatically partition your hard disk fot linux mint to install.

In this step you have to choose your region for time reference.

This Step enables you to choose layout of your keyboard which by default is selected.

In this step you have to choose your username and password for linux mint login.

As the installation proceeds linux mint is installed and now you
can restart yout pc.

NOTE-Before restarting you have to again reset your bios setting which you have setted in step 4.To do this move the harddiskdrive in boot menu again to the top.

Restart your pc and VOILA!!! you now boot in to linux mint.

If any doubt you can comment with your question and i would answer them as soon as possible.
